Ontario police have made a significant bust in the illegal cannabis market, seizing over $1 million worth of cannabis products.
According to authorities, the bust took place in the city of Hamilton, where a search warrant was executed at a commercial building on Friday. The operation was a joint effort between the Hamilton Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
During the search, police discovered a large-scale illegal cannabis production and distribution operation. In total, over 1,000 cannabis plants, 100 pounds of dried cannabis, and various cannabis-infused products were seized.
The estimated street value of the seized products is over $1 million, making this one of the largest illegal cannabis busts in Ontario’s history.
In addition to the cannabis products, police also seized equipment used for the production and distribution of cannabis, including grow lights, irrigation systems, and packaging materials.
Three individuals were arrested and are facing charges related to the production and distribution of illegal cannabis. They are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
This bust is a significant win for law enforcement in their ongoing efforts to combat the illegal cannabis market. The sale and distribution of cannabis outside of the legal framework not only undermines the regulated market but also poses potential health and safety risks to consumers.
The Hamilton Police Service and the OPP are reminding the public that the only legal way to purchase cannabis in Ontario is through the Ontario Cannabis Store or authorized retail stores.
