A major power outage has struck much of Saskatoon’s west side, leaving thousands of residents without electricity.
According to Saskatoon Light & Power, the outage was caused by a damaged power line near the intersection of 22nd Street West and Avenue P South. Crews are currently working to repair the line and restore power to affected areas.
The outage, which began around 9:30 am, has impacted several neighborhoods including Caswell Hill, Riversdale, and Pleasant Hill. Many businesses and homes in these areas have been left in the dark, with no estimated time for when power will be restored.
Residents have been advised to stay away from downed power lines and to report any outages or emergencies to Saskatoon Light & Power. The company has also set up a temporary customer service center at the Shaw Centre for those in need of assistance.
The cause of the damaged power line is still under investigation, but it is believed to be weather-related. Saskatoon has been experiencing extreme cold temperatures and high winds in recent days, which may have contributed to the outage.
In the meantime, residents are urged to stay warm and safe during this outage. It is recommended to use alternative sources of heat and to check on vulnerable neighbors, especially those who may be without power for an extended period of time.
This is a developing story and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. Stay tuned to CTV News for the latest on this major power outage in Saskatoon’s west side.
