Hitmen return to first place with 6-2 win over Rebels in Red Deer

The Calgary Hitmen have reclaimed their spot at the top of the Western Hockey League’s Central Division after a dominant 6-2 win over the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday night.

The Hitmen came into the game determined to bounce back from a tough loss to the Rebels the night before. They wasted no time in establishing their dominance, with a goal from Riley Fiddler-Schultz just 1:30 into the first period.

The Rebels fought back, tying the game at 1-1 midway through the first period. However, the Hitmen quickly regained control with two more goals from Fiddler-Schultz and Sean Tschigerl before the end of the period.

The second period saw the Hitmen continue to dominate, with goals from Josh Prokop and Adam Kydd extending their lead to 5-1. The Rebels managed to score one more goal in the third period, but it was not enough to overcome the Hitmen’s strong performance.

Hitmen goaltender Brayden Peters had an impressive night, making 33 saves and earning the first star of the game. Fiddler-Schultz also had a standout performance, scoring two goals and earning the second star.

With this win, the Hitmen now have a record of 8-3-1-0 and sit at the top of the Central Division. Head coach Steve Hamilton praised his team’s effort, saying, “We had a good response tonight. We were a little bit more determined and a little bit more focused.”

The Hitmen will look to continue their winning streak as they face off against the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Tuesday night.
