The first day of the LKSSAA Track and Field Championship saw impressive performances from high school athletes in Chatham-Kent.
The event, held at the Chatham-Kent Community Athletic Complex, showcased the talents of students from various schools in the Lambton-Kent Secondary Schools Athletic Association (LKSSAA).
In the senior boys’ division, Chatham-Kent Secondary School (CKSS) dominated the 100-metre dash, with Jaxon Smith taking first place and his teammate, Ethan Jordan, coming in second. Smith also took first in the 200-metre dash, while Jordan placed second.
In the senior girls’ division, Ursuline College Chatham’s (UCC) Emma Pegg took first in the 100-metre dash, followed by CKSS’s Kaitlyn Handy in second place. Pegg also claimed first in the 200-metre dash, with Handy once again taking second.
In the junior boys’ division, CKSS’s Owen Peters won the 100-metre dash, while UCC’s Ethan Jordan placed second. Peters also took first in the 200-metre dash, with Jordan once again coming in second.
In the junior girls’ division, UCC’s Emma Pegg continued her winning streak, taking first in both the 100-metre and 200-metre dash. CKSS’s Kaitlyn Handy placed second in both events.
Other notable performances included CKSS’s Jaxon Smith winning the senior boys’ long jump, and UCC’s Emma Pegg taking first in the senior girls’ long jump.
