Firefighters in Winnipeg were kept busy overnight as they battled two separate blazes in the city.

According to officials, all occupants of the home were able to safely evacuate before firefighters arrived. However, one person was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

It took firefighters about an hour to bring the fire under control. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation and damage estimates are not yet available.

Just a few hours later, around 3:30 a.m., crews were called to a second fire at a commercial building on the 500 block of Selkirk Avenue. Heavy smoke and flames were seen coming from the building when firefighters arrived.

Fortunately, no one was inside the building at the time of the fire. It took firefighters about two hours to bring the blaze under control.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and damage estimates are not yet available.

No injuries were reported in the second fire.

Both incidents are currently under investigation by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service. Officials are reminding the public to always have working smoke alarms in their homes and to have a fire escape plan in case of emergencies.
