Kelowna City Council to Review Proposed 20-Storey Tower on Pacific Avenue
The Kelowna City Council is set to review a proposal for a 20-storey tower on Pacific Avenue. The proposed development has sparked both excitement and concern among residents and city officials.
The tower, which would be located at the corner of Pacific Avenue and Ellis Street, would include 200 residential units, as well as commercial and office space. The developer, Pacific Avenue Developments Ltd., has stated that the tower would bring much-needed housing and economic growth to the area.
However, some residents and city officials have expressed concerns about the potential impact on the surrounding neighborhood. Traffic congestion, parking issues, and the overall height of the tower have been cited as potential issues.
City Councilor, Gail Given, has stated that the proposal will be carefully reviewed and that the concerns of residents will be taken into consideration. She also emphasized the importance of balancing the need for development with the preservation of the character of the neighborhood.
The proposal will go through a public hearing process, where residents will have the opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns. The City Council will then make a decision on whether to approve the development.
This is not the first time a high-rise development has been proposed for Pacific Avenue. In 2018, a 33-storey tower was proposed for the same location, but was ultimately rejected by the City Council due to concerns about its height and impact on the neighborhood.
The review process for the current proposal is expected to take several months, with a decision expected in the fall. The City Council has encouraged residents to stay informed and participate in the public hearing process.
If approved, the 20-storey tower would be a significant addition to the Kelowna skyline and could potentially bring new opportunities for growth and development to the area. However, it is clear that the concerns of residents and the preservation of the neighborhood’s character will be carefully considered by the City Council in their decision-making process.
