Suspect in cold case homicide arrested in El Salvador: Toronto police

Toronto Police have made a major breakthrough in a cold case homicide investigation, with the arrest of a suspect in El Salvador.

According to authorities, the suspect, whose identity has not been released, was taken into custody by El Salvadoran authorities on Tuesday. The arrest was made in connection with the 2016 murder of 27-year-old Toronto resident, John Doe.

Doe’s body was discovered in a ravine near Jane Street and Eglinton Avenue West on July 2, 2016. He had been shot multiple times.

The investigation into Doe’s murder had gone cold until recently, when new evidence led police to identify a suspect. Toronto Police worked closely with international law enforcement agencies to track down the suspect, who was located in El Salvador.

The suspect is currently in custody in El Salvador and is awaiting extradition to Canada. Toronto Police have not provided any further details about the suspect or the evidence that led to their arrest.

In a statement, Toronto Police Chief James Ramer expressed his gratitude to the international partners who assisted in the investigation, saying, “This arrest would not have been possible without the collaboration and support of our international law enforcement partners.”

Ramer also extended his condolences to the family and friends of John Doe, saying, “We hope that this arrest brings some closure to the loved ones of the victim.”

The investigation into Doe’s murder is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Toronto Police or Crime Stoppers.
