Winnipeg Firefighters Brave Two Overnight Blazes
In the early hours of the morning, Winnipeg firefighters were called to battle two separate blazes that broke out in the city.
The first fire was reported at a residence on the 100 block of Bannerman Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the home. The blaze was quickly brought under control, but not before causing significant damage to the structure. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The second fire occurred at a commercial building on the 500 block of Selkirk Avenue around 3:00 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find flames shooting out of the roof of the building. The fire was contained to the second floor and was extinguished within an hour. No one was inside the building at the time of the fire and there were no injuries reported.
Both fires are currently under investigation by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service. The cause of the first fire is believed to be accidental, while the cause of the second fire is still undetermined.
The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service is reminding residents to always have working smoke alarms in their homes and to have a fire escape plan in case of emergencies. They also urge the public to never leave candles or cooking appliances unattended and to properly dispose of smoking materials.
The bravery and quick response of the Winnipeg firefighters prevented these two blazes from causing further damage and potential harm to individuals. The community is grateful for their dedication and service in keeping our city safe.
