Saskatoon Police Renew Calls, Hoping to Solve 22-Year-Old Homicide Case
The Saskatoon Police Service is once again appealing to the public for any information that may help solve a 22-year-old homicide case.
On May 20, 1999, the body of 23-year-old Leslie Dwyer was discovered in a field near the intersection of 11th Street and Avenue P South. Dwyer had been reported missing by her family just two days prior.
Despite extensive investigations and numerous leads, the case remains unsolved. However, the Saskatoon Police Service is not giving up on finding justice for Dwyer and her loved ones.
In a press conference held on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, Detective Sergeant Grant Obst emphasized the importance of community involvement in solving this case. He stated, “We believe that there are people out there who have information that could help us bring closure to this case. We urge them to come forward and speak with us.”
The Saskatoon Police Service has also released new information about the case, including a composite sketch of a person of interest and a photo of a vehicle that was seen in the area at the time of Dwyer’s disappearance.
Detective Sergeant Obst also acknowledged the advancements in technology since 1999, stating that “DNA evidence and other forensic techniques have come a long way in the past 22 years. We are hopeful that these new tools will help us make progress in this case.”
The family of Leslie Dwyer has been waiting for answers for over two decades. In a statement released by the Saskatoon Police Service, Dwyer’s sister, Tammy, expressed her family’s ongoing pain and grief, saying, “We miss Leslie every day and we just want to know what happened to her. We hope that someone will come forward with information that will help us find closure.”
