The suspect in the recent random stabbings in Yaletown has been identified and charged, according to police.
The Vancouver Police Department announced on Tuesday that 33-year-old John Doe has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of aggravated assault in connection with the stabbings that occurred on Saturday night.
The incident, which left two people injured, happened around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Hamilton and Davie streets. The victims, a 25-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, were taken to hospital with serious injuries but are expected to recover.
Police say the suspect was arrested on Sunday afternoon after a thorough investigation and tips from the public. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
Authorities have not released any information about a possible motive for the stabbings, but they have confirmed that the suspect and victims did not know each other.
The VPD has also reassured the public that there is no ongoing risk to public safety related to this incident.
